Letter From The CEO |
|
Welcome to our summer 2007 Newsletter! We and our
business partners have been very busy this year
as millions of people worldwide are using BIO-key
fingerprint software to protect access
to retail, financial, medical, government and a host of
other applications! Read about some of our recent
deployments and you can see it is just a matter of time
before finger biometrics takes the world by a storm!!
We have seen the overall biometric market gain momentum
at a rapid pace and we are experiencing increased
activity in every market segment on an international
basis.
This trend is supported by industry experts, as
evidenced by a recent release issued by Global Industry
Analysts Inc (GIA) that states "Driven by the threat
of terrorism, the need for securing business assets and
employees, and stringent legislative environment, the
market for electronic access control systems is set to
reach US$6.1 billion by 2010", with biometric
solutions quickly making inroads in this segment,
"since they enjoy an edge over conventional
authentication solutions such as passwords,
PINs, and tokens".
Biometrics represent a
tremendous efficiency improvement for every aspect of
our daily routine in allowing us to accurately and
conveniently establish our identity for virtually any
application. Biometrically enabled household items such
as commercial, residential and garage door locks are
beginning to enter the market and will become
commonplace in the coming years. Just 36 months ago, it
was almost unheard of to have a laptop with an
integrated fingerprint reader for establishing your
identity, but today, every major laptop manufacturer
offers multiple models with this feature!
With our software's superior performance validated by
NIST, we are positioned to participate in a broad range
of both commercial and government identification
projects, and we look forward to a bright future!
Best Regards,
Mike DePasquale

NIST SDK Test Positions BIO-key's Software among the Top
Four Suppliers Worldwide
|
|
BIO-key's Vector Segment Technology® (VST®), version 6.1
was one of more than forty different software
development kits (SDKs) tested by the National Institute
of Standards and Technology (NIST). On each of the four
two-finger datasets tested, VST was ranked consistently
in the top four positions in this testing.
Highlights from NIST's
test results for BIO-key's VST 6.1 include:
-
VST 6.1 ranked first on the "FAR @ True
Accept Rate (TAR) of 99.5%" test report for
every dataset except DHS2, where VST 6.1
ranked second based on a two-finger match.
-
On the most challenging dataset (DHS2), VST
6.1's TAR varied on average by less than
0.31% as compared to the most accurate
algorithm tested. VST 6.1 also
exhibited the second best Equal Error Rate (EER)
of all algorithms tested based on a
two-finger match in this dataset.
-
At the lowest False Accept Rate (FAR)
reported (0.01%), VST 6.1's matching for the
largest dataset (POE from US-VISIT) varied
on average by only 0.04% from the other
leading algorithms tested based on a
two-finger match.
Among all the SDKs tested, BIO-key offers the only
solution that
operates
on standard commercial
hardware and databases and
is
compatible with every major fingerprint reader
manufacturer.

George
Washington University Medical
Faculty Associates Deploy BIO-key Biometric
Identification Solution |
|
The
George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates
(MFA), a 300-physician multi-specialty practice in
Washington DC, is affiliated with, and is the primary
teaching practice of the George Washington University
School of Medicine. BIO-key's VST software enables MFA
physicians to quickly and accurately log into their
Health Records without the need to remember passwords.
Doctors use the BIO-key software to establish their
identity when they sign in and
execute daily functions such as documenting
patient visits, prescribing medications, ordering lab
tests and viewing test results.
The solution implemented by BIO-key's partner,
Allscripts utilizes BIO-key
biometric software to enhance patient confidentiality
and physician convenience.
"Fingerprint identification guarantees that each
patient's private medical information remains private,
because while passwords can be shared, a doctor's
fingerprint cannot," said Praveen Toteja, Chief
Information Office for MFA. "Our physicians are focused
on patient care and they complain about the
inconvenience of constantly resetting and remembering
passwords."
"BIO-key not only enhances the security of our
Electronic Health Record but it delivers superior
accuracy and works with every major fingerprint reader,"
said Glen Tullman, Chief
Executive Officer of Allscripts.
"By embedding fingerprint biometrics in our solutions,
we're fulfilling our promise to provide the highest
possible level of security for patient records, while
also making it as convenient as possible for our
physicians to use."

VST on GSA Approved Product List |
|
BIO-key's
Vector Segment Technology (VST) fingerprint software is
now on the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA)
listing of approved products as part of the GSA's FIPS
201 Evaluation Program (GSA FIPS 201 APL). BIO-key's VST
software enables ANSI-INCITS 378 template generation and
matching. This powerful SDK can be easily integrated
into a wide range of credentialing, logical and physical
access control solutions. The ability to comply
with the latest government standards for open
interoperability and card management is a critical
element for any system integrator, middleware provider
or OEM partner building a personal
identity verification (PIV) solution.

VST is MINEX Certified for INCITS 378 Interoperability |
|
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
tested BIO-key's fingerprint algorithms in November of
2006 as part of NIST's
on-going Minutiae Interoperability Exchange Test (MINEX)
for algorithm accuracy. BIO-key's overall
performance in the MINEX test included some of the
highest marks to date for both template generation and
template matching. BIO-key ranks first among all North
American based companies in overall combined average of
mean and median scores of all MINEX compliant algorithms
tested as of January 2007.

Application Spotlight: VST Generates 80+ Million
Templates, the Largest ISO 19794-2 Deployment |
Recently, in the Nigerian Voter Registration
Project, over 80 million ISO 19794-2
fingerprint templates (a minor variation of the
American ANSI format specified in FIPS 201) were
generated and matched by BIO-key's VST software. The
Nigerian Voter Registration project is currently
regarded as the largest digital biometric enrollment
of a population using standards-based fingerprint
technology worldwide!

BIO-Key Receives Multi-factor Security Approval
|
|
The
Massachusetts Criminal History Systems Board (CHSB)
recently approved BIO-key's solution for advanced
(multi-factor) authentication for law enforcement
agency access to federal and state CJIS data. The
BIO-key solution offers customers a range of
manageable and scalable authentication options.
BIO-key's solution provides three potential methods
that could be used (in addition to a password or
PIN) to meet the advanced authentication
requirement. The solution includes the most common
and cost-effective biometric method: fingerprint,
and two different "something you have" methods: a
hardware-based token device and a software-based
one-time password (OTP).
BIO-key has included its WEB-key fingerprint
biometric authentication component directly within
InfoServer Release 6.0
at no additional cost to MobileCop® and PocketCop®
customers.

authentication methods,
