Biometrics provide methods for uniquely recognizing humans based upon one or more intrinsic physical or behavioral traits. Fingerprint recognition refers to the automated method of identifying or confirming the identity of an individual based on the comparison of fingerprints. Fingerprint recognition is one of the most well known biometrics, in computer science, in particular, fingerprint biometrics is used as a form of identity access management and access control. The first time an individual uses a biometric system is called an enrollment. During the enrollment, biometric information from an individual is stored. In subsequent uses, biometric information is detected and compared with the information stored at the time of enrollment.
A biometric system can operate in the following two modes
Verification: A one to one comparison of a captured biometric with a stored template to verify that the individual is who he claims to be. This can be done in conjunction with a smart card, username or ID number to create a two-factor authentication when necessary.
Identification: A one to many comparison of the captured biometric against a biometric database in attempt to identify an unknown individual.
Fingerprint patterns
The three basic patterns of fingerprint ridges
are the arch, the loop, and the whorl. An arch is a pattern where
the ridge enters one side of the finger, then rises in the center
forming an arch, and exits on the other side of the finger. With
a loop the ridge enters one side of the finger,
then forms a curve, and exits on the same side of the finger
from which it entered. Loops are the most common pattern in fingerprints.
Finally a whirl is the pattern you have when
ridges form circularly around a central point.
BIO-key Award Winning Performance (40 – 200 – 2000)
BIO-key conducts forty one (41) image enhancements when processing
each fingerprint image. Over two hundred (200+) points of
data are referenced in each enrollment and authentication of a
fingerprint. BIO-key software will inspect over two-thousand
(2,000+) indications for each fingerprint processed.
BIO-key’s roots can be traced to 1993 therefore we are one of the most experienced companies in the biometric industry. BIO-key is compromised of a team of experts in the area of technology, security and biometrics.
